Government, religious, and civic leaders will gather on Thursday May 22nd for the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast with the purpose of praying for America's leaders and listening to words of inspiration by Dave Rose, BYU Men's Basketball Head Coach. Mayor Washburn of Orem and Mayor Billings of Provo have chaired this event to encourage the community to gather and reaffirm spiritual values upon which this nation was founded.
Paul Warner, vice-president of the event, says he believes the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast gives the Freedom Festival a spiritual as well as a celebratory tone to freedom. "We feel very keenly about America's position under God," says Warner. "This is a crucial part of the festival's purpose…to bring people together to pray for this country."
The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast was designed after the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, first held by President Eisenhower in 1953. The event originated as a time of personal reflection and rededication to God, as well as an opportunity to restore and reaffirm the spiritual heritage of America. The Mayor's Day Breakfast echoes these objectives through prayer, word and song.
In addition to the prayer and words of faith, guests will be uplifted through song. The Utah Valley Mass Choir, formed especially for the Freedom Festival five years ago, brings together individuals from various congregations through out Utah Valley will provide inspirational music. The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast will take place at the Provo Marriott's main ballroom (101 West 100 North), Thursday, May 22, 11:30 a.m.
