2008 Speech Contest
The Speech Contest is open to 9th - 12th grade Utah students.
Theme: "American Values: Family, Freedom, God, and Country"
Entry Deadline: April 25, 2008
To enter, e-mail or telephone your full name, e-mail, telephone, year in school, school name, and title of speech to:

Contest Rules:
- Must be a Utah high school student in grades 9 to 12.
- Speech must be your own work. (Family or friends may critique your speech but cannot write it for you.)
- Speech must be memorized (no notes allowed).
- Speeches will be judged on adherence to theme.
- Time limit is 5 to 7 minutes (penalty if speech is too short or too long).
- Professional dress requested for presentation.
- Decision of the judges is final.
Helpful Hints:
- Extemporaneous speeches do not work. Write your text and then memorize it.
- Emphasize the positive. Be uplifting.
- Remember: This is not a debate. You are not trying to win an intellectual argument.
- Use of specific examples, quotations, and clearly stated principles will strengthen your speech.
- This is a celebration of America and the good it represents.
