2008 Freedom Run RESULTS

2008 Run for America! Start your Fourth of July celebration with a 10K, 5K or the Mayor's one-mile Fun Run.

The annual run has become an integral part of America's Freedom Festival as thousands of runners begin the day with a 10K, 5K, or one-mile run. Participants at all levels and abilities are encouraged to join this invigorating event.

NEW!!! This year 5K and 10K racers will receive a beautiful micro-fiber short sleeve race shirt (see picture to the left). 1M racers will receive a cotton t-shirt. Also, we have upgraded our finish line with a massive finish arch. You will LOVE it.

The Freedom Run is chaired by experienced runners and race managers. We strive to be the premier running event in Utah County.

There will be no in-office registration for the Freedom Run. To register online through Active.com, click here.

Registration fees are as follows:

  10K & 5K 1 Mile

Feb 15th to May 15th

$15 $10
May 16th to June 15th $20 $10
June 16th to July 2nd $25 $15
Late Registration on July 3rd and July 4th Race Day $30 $20

Late registration will take place at Hogi Yogi on July 3rd from noon til 7:00 pm. You may also register on July 4th at the Kiwanis Park pavillion, but remember that registration will end at 6:00 am. Shirts are not guaranteed with late registration.

NEW! We are allowing Family discounts for those who register before June 1st. The first family member will register for the full price, then each subsequent family member can register at a price reduced by $3. The discount is gone after June 1st. The discount will be automatically deducted as you register all of the family members at the same time on Active.com. If you don't register everyone at the same time, you will not get the discount. Keep in mind, this is a benefit intended only for family members that share the same current address.

10K - Race begins at 7:00 am
5K - Race begins at 7:00 am
1 Mile - Race begins at 7:00 am

That's right! All the races start at 7:00am. We will have a simultaneous race start this year using massive overhead fireworks! The VALLEY will know that the race has started. If you are running with a stroller, you must start at the back of the race field and excercise extreme caution so as not to collide with any other runner.

Race packs can be picked up on July 2nd or 3rd at Hogi Yogi on University Avenue and Bulldog Avenue (1230 North) in Provo from Noon till 7:00 pm or at Kiwanis Park on the morning of the race. Those who register after July 1st will need to pick up packets on race morning.

We continue to use an electronic timing system for the races this year. You will be asked to wear an RFID token on your shoe during the race. These tokens will help record your finish time at the end of the race and speed up the race reporting process. They must be returned at the finish line.

Race routes will remain the same as last year. Check out the interactive maps for the 5K and 10K. 5K map 10K map The 1 Mile course is entirely within the confines of Kiwanis park. The 1M course is on grass and is a considerable challenge to strollers with small wheels. 1M runners will cross at least one curb.

Awards

The Freedom Run provides cash prizes and awards to the overall winners of both the 5K and 10K ($300 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place) for both men and women. We also provide age group awards 3 deep for age groups that usually span 5 years. Awards are also provided for the 1 Mile participants. Overall awards are 3 deep in both male and female (see the "Awards Breakdown" at the bottom of the page under Resources). Age group awards are given to children up to 13. Age groups ususally span 2 years. Everyone who finishes gets a finishers medal.

St. George Marathon Partnership in the STG On The Run Program

The Freedom Runs have been given guaranteed slots for entrance into the St George Marathon on October 4, 2008 for both the 5k and 10k. These slots will be given to the runner who provides the most volunteer hours (their own hours or the hours of friends and family) to help with the each race. To compete for the slots you must register for the race and then provide volunteer information to the race committee at freedomrunprovo@gmail.com.

Ideas of where volunteers might help include: early pack pickup on July 2nd and 3rd, race morning packet pickup, course pointers, traffic control, water stations, finish line and finish line food.

The guaranteed slots to the St George Marathon are just slots. The winner must still register for the marathon and pay the entrance fee. The winner must also agree to a photo and provide a bio to be reported to the local media and to the St. George marathon.
