If the mark of an outstanding community is measured in its culture, then Provo adds a notch every year in the Fine Art Exhibit at America's Freedom Festival.  Now in its ninth year, the exhibition has received increased support from both the community and local sponsors.

The event was founded by the Provo Arts Council with the idea of providing visual artists within the State of Utah an opportunity to familiarize the community with the diversity of artistic genres available. Response from the artist community has been enthusiastic. This year the location has changed to the Covey Center for the Arts allowing the Exhibit to have a longer show! Supported financially by the Provo Arts Council, the Fine Art Exhibit is now joined by the Freedom Festival in offering a cash award for a patriotic entry.

"It takes a lot of work to put together, but gives many Utah artists an outlet to exhibit their work" says Vicki Barrett, chair of the event. "It's a fun show, and we get a large response."

That excitement grows every year as more artists submit work. The Provo Arts Council sends out approximately 800 invitations to various artists and receives 400 entries in response. That number is narrowed to 80 pieces chosen for exhibit in the Covey Center for the Arts (351 W Center St, Provo). The Provo Arts Council recognizes first, second, and third place winners with a cash award. The Freedom Festival also recognizes the most patriotic entry with a similar prize.

The Fine Art Exhibit is free to the public and open Monday-Friday (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) to encourage the community to enjoy the distinctive talent of artists from our state. Artistic talent in the mediums of painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and fiber art will be on display. If you would like to be included on next year's "Call for Entry" mailing list, please contact the Provo Arts Council at (801) 852-6646.
