Historic Provo Tours
In celebration of Provo’s rich history and tradition, the Provo City Landmarks Commission has joined with the Utah Division of State History, the National Parks Service and the Freedom Festival to produce a self-guided tour of buildings listed on the Local and National Historic Registers.
To participate in the self-guided tour, pick up a complimentary "Historic Provo" guidebook at either the Utah Valley Convention & Visitor's Bureau (111 South University Avenue), the Provo City Library (550 North University Ave.), the Provo City Utilities Building (251 W. 800 N.), the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce (Historic County Courthouse, Suite 215), Los Hermanos Restaurant (10 W. Center Street) or the Provo City Center Office of Community Development (330 W. 100 S.)
"Historic Provo" guidebooks will be available from June 12-July 4. The guidebook contains a brief history of Provo, the development of its historic architecture, and photographs and descriptions of many historic sites in the city. Additional interior tours of significant historic homes in the Franklin neighborhood will be given on Thursday June 12 and Friday June 13, 2008. The tours will begin at 5:30 p.m. each day. Thursday’s tour will begin at the Hines Mansion Bed & Breakfast located at 383 West 100 South. Friday’s tour will meet at 666 West 300 South. Participants may come anytime between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Tours will conclude at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, following the tour, a reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Provo City Library at Academy Square at 550 North University Avenue. The reception is the opening day of an art and photography exhibit recognizing featured historic buildings and homes, including those on the tour. Also at the reception a presentation will be made from a noted speaker followed by light refreshments.
