Packet-pickup will start on Wednesday July 3rd at the Provo Rec Center. We will be open from 10 AM till 7:00 PM. Fact is we have difficulty staffing additional days of packet pickup. We love our volunteers! You could be one of them!
Packet-pickup will resume July 4th at 5:15 AM at the pavilion in Kiwanis Park. We encourage you to pick-up your packet early so that you are not pressured just before the race.
At packet-pickup, you will receive your bib number with a timing chip attached, your race shirt, and a bag of goodies (if sponsors give us some goodies). You need to show ID to pick-up your packet. We do allow family members to pick-up packets of their relations but they must sign for the goods!
If after you pick-up your packet you do not come to the race, you are responsible for getting the timing chip back to the Freedom Festival offices. (Their address is printed on the chip, which looks like a half a credit card with holes in it.) All racers are expected to return their chip at the finish line. A $5 fee is charged for all missing chips.
Disclaimer: Shirts and other goodies are distributed at packet-pickup. They are not available to those that miss the event. You are buying admission to the event, not the bag of goodies.
Timing is done via “chip” timing. Each participant will receive an RFID chip that they will zip tie to their shoe. This technology allows us to capture the time from when you cross the start line till when you cross the finish line. Make sure you don’t lose you chip. We need them back at the end of the race!
We were really happy with our pace signs at the start last year. These tall signs let everyone know about where in the crowd they should position themselves. When you get to the start area, look for a pace sign that matches your intended pace. If you are a 5 minute miler, head to the 5 minute pace sign. If you are a 10 minute miler, head to that sign… and so on. We also have a Walker pace sign! Runner positioning should also coincide with your bib number. We will assign bib numbers based on your self-reported expected pace. Ultimately we really need the fast runners in the front and the slower runners toward the back at the starting line.
If you intend to push a wheeled device (stroller), we require that you start with the other wheeled devices after the runners have gone. Strollers can really jam up the works and we really don’t want any collisions between runners and strollers. Please be very attentive of all the runners and walkers around you. Give runners a wide berth if you pass them.
On-course Water Stations
The 10K has three on-course water stations. One just before the 2M mark and another just after the 3M mark and one just after the 4M mark. If you are really thirsty, you will be within 100 feet of the last water station again just after the 5M mark We want to keep you hydrated!
Post Race Food
We will load up on post-race refreshments. It is tough to have a full selection of everything by the end of the race. No guarantees, but we will do our best to keep everything stocked to the very end.
