America’s Freedom Festival at Provo is partnering with State Senator Todd Weiler and State Representative Val Peterson to sponsor the first license plate in Utah with the national motto of the United States—“In God We Trust”.
CLICK HERE to download and print the application for the new plate.
The initial contribution to pre-order the plate is $25, plus $18 in state fees. After you complete the form, you must mail it to the Freedom Festival’s offices at 4626 North 300 West, Suite 300, Provo, UT, 84604. Include a check made out to America’s Freedom Festival at Provo for $43.
A minimum of 500 people must pre-order before the state makes the plate available, we are currently at 180 plates so tell your friends and family to order too!
The idea for the new plate comes from Tate Christensen, an 11-year-old license plate collector from Salt Lake City, and the nephew of Mike Mower, Governor Gary Herbert’s Deputy Chief of Staff. Mower contacted America’s Freedom Festival about spearheading the project, and the Board of Directors was extremely enthusiastic about the idea.
“From Iowa to Virginia to Florida, drivers in many states can purchase license plates with the inspiring mottos ‘God Bless America’ or ‘In God We Trust’,” said Paul Warner, Executive Director of America’s Freedom
Festival at Provo. “Shouldn’t Utah have something similar?”
Christensen and his father have long collected license plates. He’s won an award for his collection of Utah motorcycle plates, and even shows his license plates at national meets. A few years ago Christensen asked his uncle, Mower, why Utah doesn’t have an “In God We Trust” license plate.
“After Tate showed me an Indiana plate with ‘In God We Trust’ and an Alabama plate with ‘God Bless America’, I knew he was on to something,” said buy viagra without prescription Mower. “In Indiana, it’s one of the state’s most popular license plates.”
Mower later spoke with Evan Curtis in the Governor’s Office of Planning & Budget, and on his own time Curtis designed the “In God We Trust” sticker for the new license plate.
“We feel that our national motto, ‘In God We Trust’, is an extremely important message,” said Mower. “It’s definitely one worth sharing and promoting on a license plate by those who voluntarily choose to do so.”
When Mower shared the idea with Representative Val Peterson of Orem, he was excited to lend his support by sponsoring legislation to create the plate. Senator Todd Weiler of Davis County agreed to be the Senate sponsor of the bill.
“Utah should be a leader in supporting our faith and our country,” said Representative Peterson. “The passage of this bill will allow people to make a statement about the principles upon which this country was founded. I am excited to lend my support to this proposal.”
“Our nation’s motto, ‘In God We Trust’, was first placed on U.S. coins during the Civil War in 1864,” said Senator Weiler. “It has been on our currency since 1957. I think it is very fitting that Utah join with many other states in allowing people to voluntarily select vehicle license plates that share this profoundly significant message.”

I am excited that we are going this direction, however the plate is a little plain compared to oklahoma, indiana, nevada, virginia, we don’t even have a full flag or a bald eagle on the palte either
Poor design
If you really want this to succeed, you need to re-design
I am happy with the appearance of the plate and will most definitely place an order. THANK YOU to all who were involved in bringing this to the public. I hope it will be well-received and that the orders come pouring in. Best regards!
I just love the message. Thank you Lord!! And thank you Tate!
Leave it alone it`s perfect. Keep it simple.
I think this is a wonderful opportunity and I will be ordering one
Thanks to all who were involved in creating this
I’d buy a set, but Obama supporters bought the business I worked at and laid off all the salaried employees.
I am filling out my applications and I was wondering if the plate be personalized? If possible, how many spaces are available to use.
Right now on the sample it shows only 4 FOLLOWED BY C.
It’s great!!! I sending my application in today. Thanks Tate.
IF the required 500 orders are not reached, do we get our money back?
I am also interested in a personalized plate. Is that possible? I need five characters.
Yayyyy; ordering now!
It would be nice to include the entire flag, but I’ve ordered mine anyway. It’s the right message.
Great Idea. I mailed mine today.
If we don’t reach the 500 we will shread the check you send us.
Please do a new design… It looks like a homemaking project that will hang on a 75 year old’s wall … please
Great job, does not matter what religion you are every one believes in god in one way or the other, great job for thinking of it Tate, I’m glad that the younger generation can think of this wonderful idea, it’s going to be great to have this plate on all the cars that you see, and think I came up with that Idea.. Can’t wait…. Mines ordered
Just let 2,000 people know about this. I will be pre-ordering 3 plates, but I would like a complete flag image. More color on the plate is better in my opinion, even extending under the lettering.
What a great way to get our great country back on the track
Thanks, This is another way to get our country going. Thanks
Definitely needs a whole flag!
If we can personalize, our whole family will order.
Just filled out he papers work for two… Please if you get the 500 send back they checks… But Im sure you will reach the 500 as needed… Dont change anything Love it the way it is…. Thanks
I would love to have one but can I get it on a handicap plate? My current handicap plate is personalized. Are you going to allow all three on one plate? If you need help to design this, I am willing to help. Is someone going to answer this?
This is such a great thing that is being done. I have a question for everyone wanting a redesign. Did you watch or read the story that goes with this plate? What an amazing thing an 11 year old boy is trying to accomplish. He has come up with a great idea and he has designed a plate to accomplish something he sat out to do. I actually quite like the simplicity of the plate and think it is a great way to focus on what is written rather than how cool it looks.
Thanks Tate
Could you leave up-dates to whats going on…. Thanks!
For those that are talking about a redesign and adding more color to the background. Utah law doesn’t allow it. Only two plates are authorized for background color. The arches plate and the Ski plate. The only parts of a utah plate you can manipulate are the bottom and the left side. I know from experience. I designed the license plate for the Utah Law Enforcment Memorial and I had the “thin blue line” going through the plate characters and was denied so we moved it to the bottom.
Reaching 500 is tough to reach. We started collecting a year ago next month and we aren’t there yet. I think your plate is awesome and I wish you good luck.
Danny D. is right…all specialty plates in Utah have a standard format, and then they add the picture on the left, and writing below…and those are simply stickers with the lettering / picture…that way, they don’t have to print lots of special plates…all they do is make a bunch of stickers. Lame? Perhaps…but it is economical.
I am trying to promote this on Facebook and with anyone else who will listen. Any chance of knowing how much closer we are to the goal? To me, this is a no brainer and let’s everyone know exactly where you stand on moral, political and social issues!
